I' m with you CRC. Last Tuesday morning I was heading in from the mornings hunt and walked up on 3 HUGE boars. All I had was a bow in my hand I walked to with 15 yards of them. One of them just stood there looking at me. I just started walking backward to put some distance between us. My buddy carries a pistol with him while bow hunting and now I know why. I know it' s not legal but after that experience I' m going to seriously think about it.

I agree, carrying a pistol in good insurance when there are any dangerous animals around.

I agree with Cardeer, killem dead and you will have no problems.

The only time I have heard about any problems with wild hogs is when they are cornered up (usually by dogs) or people messing with their little pigs. Other than that they are just as scared of you as you are of them.

When I was a young lad I saw the film " Old Yeller" at a theater. There is a scene where a wild boar tears up the dog as he is trying to save someone from it. It left a lasting impression with me and I too fear wild hogs.

Living in Alberta I don' t have to worry much about them. Fortunatly the Grizzlies, Black bears and mountain lions keep them away.

I just finised (Aug.) 8 Bowhunts (since Jan.) in 3 states filming & making a informational video about wild hog hunting. It was great fun for off season AND, I must say, NEVER a dull moment. Keeps you young, for sure.
