Default Txhunter58' s 7x8 mulie (PICS)

Just got back from an early rifle high country hunt in Colorado. Waited 8 years to get picked. Backpacked in 4 miles. Hunting area was another 1-1/2 miles into wilderness. Sundown of opening day, stillhunting timberline and saw a mature buck. Put him down with one shot from my 270 loaded with 140 grain Hornady light magnums at 150 yards. He is still in velvet. 29" wide main frame. Including double brow tines on both sides, he is a 7x8. Just shy of 6" bases. I am sure he is no record breaker, but he is really a great trophy to me. Packing him out on our backs about 5-1/2 miles was a killer, but I never hurt so good!

I am going to have him mounted in the velvet. Looks cool to me. If anyone knows how to post pictures and wouldn' t mind posting a few, shoot me an email and I will send them to you.

Good hunting!

Txhunter58,

Congrats on your hunt. Sounds like it was well worth the wait as everything fell into place after some hard work to get there. I have access to a site but the link is at home computer but I' m sure someone will help with that.

Good on ' ya, TX. Just curious, which GMU? Would love to see pix, if you can. The quality of bucks in CO. has gone through the roof since we went to draw tags only on deer here ' bout 5-6 years ago. To illustrate the point...A hunting buddy and I were coming out of Cebolla Creek Canyon from our elk area a couple of years ago and ran into 2 25" + 5x5' s, a 4X4 and 2 3X3' s feeding on the side of this remote road. After driving about 15 mins., we hit CO 149 and were shocked to run into 7 5X5' s all together grazing at the edge of the pavement. 2 were 30" +, 3 mid 20' s, and 2 right around 20" None of these animals were more than 50' away. I have 3 points in this GMU and should draw for next Fall...
