I will be hunting Elk in 10 days and I am concerned with my the broadhead flight I am getting out of my 125Gr. Muzzy (3 blade). I use 90 Grain muzzy (4 blade) for deer and they work very well. My question is will they be enough for Elk? The cutting area is only 1" . I shoot a Mathews with 29" Blackhawk Vapor carbon arrows at 68lb. with a drop away rest.
90 grn Muzzys in 4 blade will take an elk down. My concern would be if you' re shooting a head that light, then your total arrow weight must be fairly light as well. In Idaho the minimum total arrow weight which includes broadhead must be 400grn. We' ve taken a few bulls with 100grn 3 blade Muzzys, but now use 125grn 3 blade and 130 grn 4 blade. It offers a little more cutting surface as well as weight. Elk are tough as you well know, a little heavier arrow setup is better than to light a setup for those marginal shots where penetration can be hindered.
Good Luck. elknut1

S' pose about any broadhead will kill an elk if placed right in the boiler room, but I am a staunch advocate of 125' s. Not as much speed as a 90, but harder hitting.
