I currently have 1 preference point and am looking at going this fall. Any suggestions on an area with a lot of public land where a non-resident would likely draw? I will be driving quite a distance and don't want to rely on gaining access to private land once I get there. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
1 PP will get you a tag in unit 27 down south of Gillette and there is plenty of public land in the unit with good numbers of goats and some decent bucks if you take the time to look for them and just don't shoot a dink right out of the gate to fill the tag.
I have been also reading about unit32, do you know much about this unit? Which would be better? Last year I drew 45 on my third choice and wish I hadn't due to the difficulty or expense of finding land to hunt.
Get a blm maps with gps grinds and you can hunt about anywhere in those .Most are at least 1mile by1 mile or bigger .You will have no trouble filling your tags [deer and goats]on them.We had very good hunts doing just that and we had the hot showers and meals staying in a motel.
