This year I plan on using my Savage 220f (20ga) for deer & bear here in New Jersey. I'm using Remington Accu-Tip Slugs 3", I know of a few people who used this same set up last year on bears and had great success. My Savage is shooting excellent, 3/4" groups at 100 yards. I mentioned to a few friends of mine that I will be using this set up, they all claim I'm nuts and should be using a 12ga., I think they have no idea what their talking about when it comes to the 20ga., shot placement is the key
i think the 12g is good fer 140 yards er so........i would just check the ballistics yerself...
then i might try startin off at 60 yards er so...see how they do, and go from there...gl

20 gauge should do fine. Like you said, shot placement is key- with any round. Know your ranges, know your shotgun, know your kill zones. And you'll be fine.

keep the shots close and in the bread basket. Keep the shots close. A 20 gauge only has about 600 ft. lbs @ 100 yds. I knew a guy who shot a big bear in Min. with a 20 about 400 he said so it was more like 300. I was surprised all the hunters using shotguns in min for bear.
