Default .308 ammo for black bear

Hey guys picked up my new browning x-bolt last night in a 308 and now i need to find what ammo im going to use. im thinking nosler trophy grade accubonds in either 150 gr or 165 gr not sure witch one so that is why im here. witch do you think would be better. im hunting in minnesota so it will be over bait between 30 and 45 yards. if you have any other opinions let me know as i am not 100% sure what i want to shoot out of it.

If a friend has the same caliber, or someone else you know.
Get together and buy several different brands. Find the one that shoots the best. That is the one to use.

Though at that short range, any brand with a well constructed bullet will do the job. There is an article in the Wisconsin Outdoor News in the current issue about all Copper non-toxic bullets. You may want to check them out.

Nosler partitions are the best hunting bullet ever designed. And with the .308 I'd go 180 gr. for black bear. They're tough.

In all honesty you dont need a premium bullet to kill a black bear.I would pick-up a box of Rem. Coreloks, Win. SuperX & Federal Powershoks in 150g and see which one your rifle likes best.If youre not comfortable with 150g bullet go with a 180g.But IMO a 150g out of 308 is plenty for a black bear.

I've always been a strong proponent of premium ammo like Winchester Supreme, Hornady Superformance, or Federal premium . . . but you'll be shooting a bear under 50 yards . . . I can't see where a premium bullet will be needed. I don't think it would be necessary to even try different ammo to see which one your gun likes (very important!).
You need a fast expanding hard hitting bullet that will put the bear down in their steps. I'd have to recommend the Federal Power Shok in 180 grain. They also have it in 150 gr.

I would stick with the accubond, even with a 50 yard shot. I shot a bear in BC with my Rem 7mm using a 160gr accubond @ 285 yards and the bear went less than 20 yards. Stick with the premium loads you won't regret it.

I did some more research and im thinking im going to go with a standard bullet. I want to do as little damage to the meat as i can and if i go with a premium bullet the chances increase. so now im leaning toward a federal fusions or remington corelok. i like the winchester power max bonded but they only make them in a 150 gr

With a bear, IMOP, meat damage is the least of my worries.
Cleanly killing the animal is the utmost. Sometimes that may mean spending more money on better ammunition.
