The whole unit, except for the far southern part, holds a lot of elk. Just get a good map of the unit and go. They will be rutting if you have the whole two weeks to hunt. My buddy and I are planning to be there the entire season chasing bulls.

If your able to pack your meat I would try the quiet area's. Happy Jack, Clints Well and Clear Creek hold some good elk.Good Luck

Default scouted up by upper lake mary

I just got back from scouting upper lake mary, I was up there 2 weeks ago and there was so much snow I figured everything moved out, not the case. I saw 3 good size bulls and a few smaller bulls at newmans tank south of upper lake mary.
There is already a ton of hunters down by stonemans lake and apache maid. I didn't see a dang thing down there. all the elk I saw was up north still
