Default What bullet!!!!!!!

I have a young friend (Marine) on his way overseas, not sure where, it's top secret. However, I have an early 80s' model Weatherby chambered in the 300 Win. Mag. (long action), which I want to give him, it has a 3X9 Leoupould scope . I want to load him a couple of hundred rounds for Elk Hunting. Would/can some of you recommend a load for this rifle (26 in barrel) and kicks like a 5 legged mule.

May be a 24 inch barrel, will have to check. My only request to him is, go elk hunting, I was never able, Maybe I want to live thru him, but want him to have a hunt of a life time, and I don't know when that time will come for him.

Don't get into any arguments over this, please, just some suggestions that I can handload for him.

Sincerely,
Dane

I vote for Barnes TSX in 180 gr. Out of a .300 Win mag it would hit like a sledgehammer.

I use 180gr. Nosler Partitions in my 300 RUM. Works excellent on elk. Also a 180gr Speer Grand Slam is another good bullet you might want to try, they are a very good shooting bullet that does well on elk, at least in my experences.

Definitely a 180 gr and my picks would be what shot the best out of that gun between the Barnes TSX, Nosler Partition, Nosler Accubond or the Scirroco II.

I would just load up the 200 or so rnds that U plan on and let him shoot the gun and get used to it....as most reloaders know not all loads work the same in every rifle....me I would kill for some real 150grn winchester silvertip bullets!!! they are very deadly in my .300, I use them for elk all the time or I should say when I can find them and load some up....but then after he gets back home U can work up a load for him, that U both have confidence in!!!!

What load gives you the best accuracy out of that firearm?

He's looking for a load, not just bullet recommendations.
