200gr GameKing for 06'

Any one here use the 200gr GameKing out of an 06? I like the 550 B.C. and fairly low price. I'll be using them in an old Rem 721 with a 24" barrel an 1-10 twist. Any experiance on Moose, Caribou an bears welcome. I'm moving from South Georgia to Sterling Alaska. I love my deer and hog hunting, but cant wait for those big boys. And i know that a 150gr SP isn't going to do the same job on a 1000 pound moose as a 120 pound Georgia Whitetail.

Here is what the manufacturer says about that bullet:

GameKing® bullets are designed for hunting at long range, where their extra margin of performance can make the critical difference."

So, while I think it would be an excellent choice for 200 yard + shots, I would worry some about 50 yard ones. And I doubt that you would be shooting many moose at 300 yards.

If it were me I would rather have a 180 solid core bullet such as Nosler partition, Barnes, or Hornady GMX, or if they make these bullets in 200 gr, that would work too, but your trajectory starts to suffer when you push that big a bullet out of an '06.

I don't have any information about the effectiveness of the round because I haven't hunted with it but I got Federal Power-Shock 220 grain .30-06 for eventual large game hunting. For what it's worth, I've sighted in my Browning XBolt with it and it's ridiculously accurate. The round uses Speer Hot Cor Soft Point bullets.

I have taken moose, deer and over a dozen African species including eland, which is larger than moose, with a 30-06 and Sierra 180 gr. Game King bullets. I have not shot factory ammo for twenty years and shoot Sierra's most of the time. I have used Nosler's in 180 gr. to some extent but my 30-06 seems to like the Sierra's better.

If your twist rate is only 1-10" you may want to stick to lighter loads. Heavier bullets tend to do better with faster twist rates (1-11", 1-12" for .30 cal) so you may want to play with a faster bullet. Have you tried 165 gr GameKings? My .308 is a 1-10" twist and it pushes 165-168 grain loads beautifully.

A 1-10" is a faster rate of twist than a 1-11" or 1"12".

Just my two cents ...but i'd keep ahold of a few of them 150's for the caribou... I think U might just be a bit suprised at how big they ain't...........just sayin

I havnt tried them but i do like Sierra bullets, they produce the most accurate bullets on the market. I have used 180gr. ProHunters for years on elk and they work great. I have never been to fond of the boattail designed bullets, i have seen them shed jackets more often than a flat based bullet suchas the ProHunter, the GameKing bullets are a boat tail design which like was stated earlier were made for long range shots which you probably wont get too many in Alaska. In my opinion they will work fine but i would prefer the 180gr. ProHunter, they are capable of killing anything in Alaska when used in a 30-06.
