Default MT pronghorn season pics

Pics from our 2010 season...

The wife started it off about an hour into opening morning with a beautiful 250 yard shot on this buck. He went 13 1/2 and had good mass and cutters. I actually had a buddy miss this buck during archery season, but that's a another story!

She's been hunting for ten years and has killed more big game than some of my buddies but she had never field dressed her own animal. I took off to look for another herd we had spotted and when I came back 20 minutes later she had him dressed as nice as can be. She then carted him out about a mile on her own and wouldn't let me help! She wanted to do it all on her own and was very proud of the fact!

No shots for me the rest of opening day but around noon the second day I watched a huge herd of 65 head go into a bowl and never come out. I gave them some time to bed and pulled a bout a 3/4 mile stalk, belly crawling the last couple hundred yards to get a 250 yard shot on this buck. Most of the herd was bedded, him included and I let him have it when he stood up to stretch. He went 14 inches.

The second weekend I went out pretty quickly filled my doe tag. I was cruising some random pieces of public land when I lucked onto a ranch that let me on. Luckily I had just watched a nice doe and a fawn on a piece of their property adjacent to some state land I was hunting. I went back after obtaining permission and by now there about a half dozen does and fawns bedded on a flat about a half mile off the road. I had to drive almost 2 miles past them to get a large ridge between us and the wind right. I then pulled about a 1 3/4 mile stalk and belly crawled the lat 200 yards to get a 225 yard shot on this doe in her bed. Now on to deer next weekend!

Congrats!

Never field dressed her own animal? those are the rules...you kill it, you dress it! I'm always willing to help/lend a hand, but I'm not the guide, or at least I'm not getting paid that well

I remember one of my first deer hunts, a guy took a deer, and invited me over to field dress his deer so I knew how? I had seen it done many times by that point, I was happy to watch, but I was like, gut your own deer! I'll gut my own when I get one.

But hey awesome job! love hunting the goats!

What cartridges did everyone use?

Hey I'm just glad she comes and I'm usually so excited when she gets something that I have no problem gutting it for her. She's helped me pack out elk and deer quarters so many times it evens out. She used a 270 for her buck, which is also what I used on the doe. I took my buck with a .300 WSM.
