Default Mulies / elk- still in velvet in early sept?

will mule deer still be in full velvet in early sept? or will they hav already removed most of it?

anyone know about elk?

Where are you hunting?

Around here (Central Utah) the elk will be out of velvet except a few odd balls and small bulls. The muleys will be in the process of shedding the velvet in early September but you would have a good chance of running into some still in full velvet.

ill be huntintg in eastern oregon, idk if its similar to the schedule that elk in utah follow but i was wondering

With some few exceptions, where I hunt in Western Wyoming, most of the mule deer will be in velvet. Most of the elk not. By mid September, most all of the mule deer not.

There are exceptions to that but I agree with them. Most elk will be out and most deer in or just starting. I have seen some bigger deer in velvet later in the year.

As of Sept 8 in Colorado, some of the bulls were in velvet and some out.

There's a guy here in CO. that is in the high country weekly and takes some great pics. of elk weekly, and he posts over on monstormulie, and most of the elk here in CO. are out of velvet right now.

In Western Wasington they are out of velvet, i think. i will let you know if i get lucky enough to get one this year lol.
