Default Hello and MOOSE!

Hello -

I' ve been reading for a little while now and decided to jump on in.

I' ve only chased whitetail as far as big game so far, but I' m looking forward to hunting MOOSE in Maine this October! I was lucky enough to draw a tag for region 4. Anyone else ever hunted up there? I' m all set with an outfitter and am already filled with anticipation!

Best,

A

Welcome to the boards, glad to have you join in. Congrats on the moose tag and good luck on the hunt! Now, you have to find a way to deal with the anticipation of the hunt for the next 4-5 months.

Bring home a big one!

Welcome to the board. I can' t say that I can help much, and I don' t know what the zones are in Maine, but I have been in Allegash region many times, both canoeing and deer hunting. Seen quiet a lot of moose there and the outfitter that I was with has pretty much 100% rate on moose. So if you are near the area, you should definetely run into some great hunting. I have also been camping in the Baxter area in central Maine and again have run into a lot of moose. Best of luck.

Zone 4 is some of the best hunting in the state, plenty of Moose and nothing but wilderness. Where are you staying? I know that area like the back of my hand, one spot in particular had 9 bulls in one little honey hole last year. No too many guys get back there, because they got to walk too far!!

Marlin-

I will be staying outside of Clayton Lake and hunting with Straight Arrow Outfitters. This will be my first trip that far north - I' ve only been up as far as Greenville before.

Moose hunting in Maine is fun! I was born and raised in New Brunswick. Then I lived in Maine for 6 years, before moving to Arizona. I lived/hunted in Aroostook County area (Houlton) and my father in law (ex) had a hunting camp in Haynesville. Good luck!!

Clayton Lake is prime Hunting!!! I have a buddy that hunts bear in that area and he has told me that if he ever gets picked for Moose Hunting, that is his first zone choice. I also have hunted the area for bear and deer and have seen some real nice bulls in that area myself. I dont know much about your outfitter, but have heard nothing but good about his outfit.
Good luck!!!
