Depends on the bear densities where you are hunting.. Ups and downs to every method. ie:
baiting - lots of work, bear could be only hitting bait at night
spot and stalk - if you aren't in a high density area forget it
hounds - probably have to pay someone or know someone that hunts with them
They are fun animals to hunt, but like I said depends where you are planning on going as to what style on hunt suits you.

The most effective way to judge a bears size is to shoot him over bait. This also gives you time to make sure it is not a sow with cubs.

It depends on where and what type of habitat you're hunting in. Some areas are really too thick to use dogs and expect a clear shot or stalk anything, some places bait is illegal. Kind of like fishing, the type of lure depends on where you are.

I don't bear hunt, I like to hunt with clothes on

I know, that's a really bad joke.
On a more serious not, how do you "stalk" bears

Depends on the terrain where I live baiting is the only practical way. The alder is so thick you can't see more than a few yards. However I guide in another area along the Gulf of Alaska where spot & stalk is the best way. Down there you can walk the old logging roads and glass the berry patches.

Where I live and hunt baiting is the method of choice in the forest. On the fringe and farmland sitting on field edges of oat fields or berry bush's can work well on fall hunts.
When I guided in BC spot n stalk.

If I had a choice spot n stalk.
