Default Spring Brooks Range Caribou

Here's a couple of caribou a buddy and I arrowed in the Brooks Range last weekend. We saw thousands of them and even saw a pack of 13 wolves hunting the caribou. We tried going after the wolves but they were on the very top of an extremely steep mountain, and we couldn't get up high enough before dark. It's kind of bass ackwards hunting caribou this time of year because the cows have antlers and the bulls don't.

A nice red fox that Matt bagged and some caribou migrating back to their calving grounds to the north.

How did you get into the area to hunt and did you have to wear snow shoes?

We just drove. It's kind of a crapshoot because the caribou can be right along the road or many miles from it. The snow is usually pretty crusted so it's generally easier to ski than it is to snowshoe.

Here's a picture of me playing cat and mouse behind a little knob waiting out some caribou. The other picture is just a tiny fraction of the animals that were around.
