Default Magnum Fest 2003

It all started with some of us from the Denver area deciding to get together and shoot the bigger stuff, then it got a little better.....

Magnum Fest 2003 Is On!

Ever Wanted To Shoot The Medium and Big Bores? [8D]
Interested In Stepping Up Your Shooting Experience A Notch? [:-]
Want To Step Into Africa (sort of) Without Crossing The Atlantic?

WHAT:
We are doing a progressive " magnum shoot" -- you start at the lighter magnums and work your way up and stop when its " right" ! [X(]

We will start at:
300 Win Mag, then
338 Win Mag, then
375 H&H Mag, then
416 Rem Mag, then
416 Rigby, then
458 Win Mag, and then
500 Nitro Express [X(][X(]

WHERE/WHEN:
Cherry Creek Shooting Center
(Access only from the south using Jordan Road [currently])
Englewood, Colorado (SE Metro Denver)
8:00 a.m. July 12, 2003

HOW LONG:
A couple hours? We haven' t done this before. I' m keeping the entire morning open just in case things take on a life of their own.

FORMAT:
Orientation/Instruction will be by Allan Duckworth who has guided as a PH in Tanzania and taught at the Professional Hunter School in South Africa.
(1) Discussion of Big Bore fundamentals,
(2) Dry fire simulation and critique,
(3) Offhand shooting - smallest to largest calibers
(4) Bench Rest - how to shoot Big Bore off the bench (and not be sorry)!

COST:
$15 " Instruction" Fee + Range Fee ($10??). Good all day, so bring other guns to shoot afterwards if you want. After Magnum Fest everything else will probably feel pretty light and docile.

AMMO/COST:
Gun owners will provide the ammo along with the guns.
Reinburse the owner of the gun(s) at a " near breakeven" -- we' ll keep a running total and then you can pay up. I expect that at a maximum no one would shoot each gun more than twice (once offhand and once from bench).
Note: 416 Rem approx. $4.25/round, 416 Rigby approx $6.00/round, 500 Nitro Express $15/round

INFO:
I will work at having an info sheet for you with each rifle listed with; cartridge, bullet, load, rifle weight = pounds recoil, recoil velocity, muzzle velocity, muzzle energy. This way you will have some numerical measure to go along with what you experience.

ARRANGEMENTS:
Contact us before just showing up -- we want to accomodate! We have a small core group already and if it' s " just us" that will be fine, HOWEVER, MORE ARE WELCOME! Email me if you are interested in participating (click the " envelope" next to my profile & include Magnum Fest 2003 in the Subject Line) we can make room for more!

Any questions or discussions you may feel are appropriate to the forum, go ahead and post here.

I' ll keep you posted as things unfold..... and again as always,

Never Go Undergunned,
EKM

Cartridges/Calibers added and.... two " slots" left!

I just firmed things up some more with Allan the PH and he does not want too large a group hence we now have two slots left.

I' ve firmed up that we do indeed have the 458 Win Mag. coming and....

A 500 Nitro Express at $15.00 per round! [X(][X(]
(I' ll have to get a .500 bullet and mount on the empty casing just as a souvineur!)

Never Go Undergunned,
Doesn' t look like it will be any problem at all....

Dang, I wish I could justify the airfare. Wife would probably kill me! It looks like you guys will have a great time.

Is anyone in Pennsylvania interested in doing something like this?

patrkyhntr,

ColoradoElk has a 416 RemMag so we will be sure to " torch one off" for you " in absentia" . Keep the wife happy so it doesn' t interfere with the future allocation of funds for your next " big one."

Missing: The two book ends: 500 NitroExpress and 300WinMag

It really looks like you guys have a great collection of toys assembled. A word of caution here. This fest is not for those who think a .30-06 kicks like hell!

I have posted this linke before, but here it is again. This will take you to Chuck Hawks' recoil table.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm

I am seriously thinking about such an event here in Pennsylvania. My buddy with the .460 says he is not interested in having others shoot his rifle, only me (I am the only one who is dumb enough to sight in his scope for him).

Have a blast, guys.

Already reserved my spot. Going to be fun. Can' t wait. If my wife has the day off she' ll be coming to do a bit of shooting after the big bore shoot out. She won' t be partaking in the festivites though. Trying to get her broke in still.

Will be nice to put faces with all the local names on the forums.
