Default first time bear hunter

I will be bear hunting for the first time next fall in Wisconsin. I am in zone C so I won't have to worry about dogs running. Any advice on when to start baiting, what bait to use, or anything of the sort.

How much did you usually have to pay for the oil and stuff from the different restaurants?? I've heard that movie theatre popcorn is a great bait.
