After 30 years I finally got my Wyoming Moose. He had about a 37" spread.
The only shot I had was about 300 yards, quartering away. But with my 300 win mag I felt good about the shot and he only went about 20 feet - closer.
When we were elk hunting up around Grassy Lake we talked with a game warden and he said last year they only had 20% success on moose and it sounded like they were expecting about the same again this year. There just aren't as many around anymore thanks to the wolves.
That's a nice Shiras.

He said there were 90 something licenses drawn and only 19 harvested for 2008 for our area.
I guess he lied though, because I just looked it up on Wyoming's state fish and game website and they are showing 86% success rate overall and a 47% success rate in the area we were hunting.

I don't know the numbers for sure, but I know around Cody and Jackson the success has gone way down. Mostly because of the wolves and grizzly bears.
Congrats. Those Shiras can be tough to hunt sometimes and others seem to be standing on the side of the road waiting to be shot. I can't wait to draw my tag....one day.
