Your gun will put down a bear no problem. What state are you hunting in? Some states allow bating, some don't. I'm in Montana and bating is illegal.

The best way to do it in PA is to get a group of friends and put on some drives.
You need to be in an area with a good bear population than start doing drives. some still hunting too.
Good luck!!!

I plan on going to Maine this coming spring for black bear. Baiting is legal and really anything from a .270 and up will be sufficient to take one down....patience is also great haha

This spring when I decided to go for bear, I bought a tag, whipped out the binocs, and glassed for 8+ hours/day for 10+ days. Saw 12+ grizzlies before I saw a black bear. Glassing may not work in your area, but it worked for me.
