Anyone else find it frustrating when trying to figure out how to be legal to hunt in a particular state?
Not only does every state call a permit/license/tag something else in another
Some states require a special bow stamp, etc..
I'm going to have to make some calls, but it's a bit ridiculous.
Personally I think you should apply for a tag/permit, when you draw it and pay for it, you should be legal to go hunt it!
Or some states have seperate bow tags/rifle tags, some states allow you to hunt both seasons with 1 tag, but then if they do you need to buy a special bow stamp/license.
I'm off to MT then WY in a couple weeks, I'll figure it out, but just a quick glance, looks like I need; 1.an elk license, 2. a conservation license, 3.a hunting enhancement fee, which I'm not sure I bought/paid for yet, 4. a bow/arrow permit, which I'm not sure if that's what my special archery license is?
WY, I drew a permit, and I believe i need to buy a stamp to go hunting.
Are these states attempting to save us money? or those who draw and pay for a tag but don't go hunting from having to buy a hunting license? I don't get the need for all these specialized stamps/tags, etc...
It's called sucking as much money from you that they can. NR hunters bear the brunt of the fees that states levi on hunters. Look for them to figure out new ways to drain your bank accounts.

I don't know. I pay extra for my non-resident hunting license, but I pay the same price for a federal duck stamp and can use that anywhere; I pay the same price as a state resident for my Colorado habitat stamp. Don't get me wrong, it is confusing and complicated and a pain in the neck. It seems like I need five separate pieces of paper to legally duck hunt in Oklahoma (small game license, habitat stamp, federal duck stamp, HIP stamp, and then my hunter education card). Make a mistake and I suppose you could be accurately characterized as a "poacher." I think I keep up on this stuff, but I would admit I would sympathize with someone who made a mistake and was short a piece of paper on some particular hunt.

The simple solution would be to stay home and hunt what you can in your own state, or move to a state that has what you want to hunt.....
