Default elk hunting units

what unit with over the counter tags would you suggest for me and my dads first elk hunts.to get an over the counter tag do you need to send any thing in or just go and get it. also do i have a chance of not getting an over the counter tag. also we would be using rifles. how much do over the counter tags usually run. are over the counter tags just cow tags or bulls tags also.thanks

I would look in southern or SW part of state....JMO
North and NW have been heavy pine beetle kill......Lodge Poles are all but gone...not a food source but it is sure brown!
As I suggested in your earlier post, check DOW web site.....and good luck!

Check the CDOW website for all the info you need. Bull tags will run you about 550; cow tags 250. Tons of elk in the White River units. Most units over the counter; buy them OTC when you get to Colorado. Flat Tops also hold tons of elk. Mostly OTC units. Good luck.
