CO preference Points

What does it cost to put in every year for preference points in CO, providing you don't get drawn. Id like to build up points until 2013 or 2014ish, as I wont be able to go until then, but would like to have some points built up until then. Anybody know the cost? Been researching, but can't seem to find it cut and dry.
Thanks

Resident or NR? What will you be hunting and where did you look?

The preference points to draw for 2008 are in the link above, as are links to the costs to apply for a tag or preference point.

Good luck.

I forget, but it's not much, either way its worth it...the problem is you have to front the entire tag fees in order to get a bonus pt, can't just buy a bonus pt.

I think for elk they'll let you apply for a cow tag to get a bonus pt for any elk, so that saves you out of pocket fees,

for some reason I think $30 is what pts amount to but I'm just going off memory. I'm sure you can download the big game catalog and they'll say...

FYI if you're looking to build pts for sheep, moose, goat, you need to front the entire tag fee for each species up front and on paper, no online apps for these, least this year there wasn't...which means you need to send them in early to meet deadlines as you won't be able to apply fri at 11:59pm etc...

You would apply by buying the whole tag but only use the preference point code. They would than refund you minus $25 for the tag which would be uncuccessfully drawn.

I called and that's what I found out. Im not used to having to buy an individual license for each species. You buy a sportsmans license in NC you get 6 deer tags, 2 turkey, a boar tag and a bear tag for $40 (if you're a resident), you get to fish (freshwater) and hunt on private and public land. All new to me. I am excited and hope I can work something out.

The really "good" areas will take a lot more than 3-4 points. You will have to sent about $250 each year to collect a point. They will keep $25 if you didn't actually buy a tag the year before or order an "open unit" tag that year.

I now have 15 points and still can't hunt the area/season that I want. Here is a link that shows approximately how many points you need for different areas:

Good luck.

Thanks Magic. Ill keep putting in for points. Im not picky, I just want to go for the experience. Ill probably start applying for New Mexico after I hunt CO. We go every year to see the fiance's family, sooooo I could double up.

Hi TreednNC,
You don't have to save up points to go to Colorado. Take a look at unit 78.
That's where I go. A friend of mine used to go to 78 every year before he got too old. He told me about it 3 years ago and I've been going since. North east of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. OTR is available for week 2 and 3 and for the first rifle season 9 out of 10 draw successfully every year. If you aren't successful then you get a preference point.

In Colorado you can just buy a PP for elk, deer or antelope. Elk is $30; others are cheeper. No need to buy a license.
