Sabot For Moose?
I'm going to Newfoundland this fall for moose and I'm going to be using my 50 Cal T/C Omega. I'm looking for some thoughts on what might be a good choice of sabot to use? Up to this point, I've only taken whitetails using powerbelt aerotips, they've worked good for the whitetails, but from some of the reading I've done, they may not be the best choice for a big heavy hided animal, like a moose. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I haven't taken a moose w/ a mz yet, but If I were going to go w/ the smokepole, I wouldn't hesitate to use a TC Shockwave... Great sabot... huge holes... go w/ a heavy grain for your moose and you'll be fine...

RE: Sabot For Moose?
Not to nit pic but the sabot is the plastic jacket (skirt)that surrounds the projectile to "take up the slack" to accomidate your .50 bore!
I have taken 2 moose with ML;No excuse .460grconical with no sabot& .452 (black) sabot with 300gr Barnes Expander. Both did the job, double lung shots.
Seeing your using a TC which are known for having tight bores (could bea reason you like/use the powerbelt previous). I'd suggestlooking at the 300gr TC shockwave withsupplied super glide sabot's. While I have used .250gr SW & SST for deer, I think they can be exposed to expansion if pushed moderate to high and something you don't really want on a moose. I think you should be trying to find a 300gr bullet combo, what it may lose out of the muzzle it makes up for downrange and on target. I now use 300gr bullets for deer as wellin my hunting ML and shoot longer range, may add with more confidence and better results.I'd also suggest you ask in BP forum here other tc encore owners what they have found for sabot/bullet combos for other 300gr bullets..pretty sure you'll get some advice to get you started.
Good Luck
