Default Muck Boots vs Alpha Burly

Heading to Newfoundland and everyone says 18" rubber boots are a must. Most are recommending the Alpha Burly line. Does anyone have experience with Muck boots or a comparison between them? Thanks for the info

I have a pair of each and have hunted with them in Newfoundland, BC,and Alberta in Canada. Also Alaska, Oregon. Florida and several of the other wet damp states. Never had an issue with either kind. I don't have to but when hunting I rotate them everyday and hunt Alpha one day and Muck the other.Has always worked for me. Both have kept me good and dry.

For what ever reason I myself perfer the Alpha somewhat better.

If you are going to NF early in the season you won't need much insulation. You will likely do some serious hiking, so LIGHT Weight might become your first priority. Take extra socks to help deal with moisture. Unless your outfitter is going to put you on stand, heavily insulated boots are not desirable.
Personally, I like the 400 gram insulation for hunts that keep you on the move. You will not need even that in September.
My preference is for the Lacrosse boots.

forgot to mention: the folks telling you that you need the 18" boots... it is excellent advice.

I own both pairs.
My Alpha Burly Sports I wear when it is warmer out. I have the regular uninsulated ones. I wear turkey hunting and bow hunting earlier in the season. I love my Muck Boots as well.
If I had my choice, I would go w/ heavier insulated Alpha Burly's.

They are my favorite boots ever.

Hey, I hunted in Newfoundland (note pic in my avatar) and bought Alpha-Burleys specifically for that hunt.

Yes, you will need them. Very soggy terrain that will soak other nonrubber type boots. I have no experience with the Muck boots.

I will say this about the Alpha-Burleys, the soles are a bit slippery when walking on wet rocks, wet tree limbs and wet logs. be careful crossing creeks.

Other than that, they are great for Newfoundland. Very comfortable for all that hiking you will be doing.

I wanted to add this, make sure you have good rain gear, if you haven't already been told.

The cheap plastic type rain gear will be ripped to shreds in minutes in that black spruce.

Black spruce were like stunted, twisty, knarly, little pine trees with lots of roots sticking out to trip over. You'll see

Good luck on that hunt! Take a camera, its beautiful there.

Muck all the way. I have two pair and love them. Warm and lightweight. I tried a pair of Alphas on and they weren't as comfortable or light as the Mucks.
