Default wyoming elk draw info

Am i correct in that if I applyfor a limited elk tag as my first choice and a general season tag as my second that if I didn't draw my first choice and did a general season tag that it would not use my preference points? I know that the chances of drawing a general tag as a nonresident for my second choice will be highly unlikly but I don't want to lose my points if I should draw.

2nd choice draws dont burn your pts, and you'll gain another pt.

But I believe everyone's first choice is chosen before anyone's 2nd choice, this varies state to state, so really you only have 1 chance a premium limited entry unit. and although I'm trying to draw a gen tag as a 2nd choice I think its impossible....since as your first choice the odds are like 30%

The last few years there have been more people applying for the general tag as their 1st choice than there have been tags available so I don't think you'll have to worry about it.

For 2008 the odds were just under 15% if you applied for a general tag as your 1st choice with no preference points. If you go to the high dollar "special" tags your odds were better (a little over 50%) but there were still not enough tags to fill up all the folks who had it as their 1st choice.
