Default First CO Elk Hunt

Well I just got back from my first elk hunt. It was such an awsome experience. I may have not shot the biggest bull in the mountains. I am proud of this one because it's my first. In total I saw 7 bulls, and 40-50 cows and cavles. This guy was the only one that gave me a shot.

We topped a hill and he was feeding on a hillside with some other bulls, and numerous cows. The distance was ranged at 280yds. I settled the crosshairs behind the shoulder and gently squeezed the trigger. He ran off into some dark timber. We followed it up and he only made it 50 yds. I finally had a bull down. This has been a dream for quit a while. High fives and numerous pics were given and taken then the hard work began.

Congrats on the elk. I would be proud of that one as well. Looks like a really big body. You aren't kidding when you say the hard work begins. The easy part is the stalking and shooting. The hard work comes when you have to cut him up and pack him out if you don't have the quads or are far from a road and can't get the truck close.

Let me start by thanking you for serving our country.
Glad for your success. It's a special thing to take any Wapiti.
National average is one elk every five years. Congrats.
What caliber were you shooting? Was this DIY or guided?

Again . . . Thanks!
