Sweetwater cow camp Colorado
Just returned from Colorado elk hunt and was extremely disapointed with the trip. Hunted the Sweetwater cow camp area and the only elk seen was a herd of about 300 all on private ground. Definately wouldn't recomend it to anyone. I guess a couple of guys took bulls during 1st season but only one during second. Hiked alot of miles and even horsed in about 7 miles one day and never saw anything. Will look for areas with large expances of public next time where the elk can't get on the private and hole up.

SOrry to hear that your hunt didn't put meat in your scope. BUT as you have learned that if there is unpressured private ground near an area that gets a lot of hunting pressure, the elk will move and stay on the private ground. I'd guess that the early seasons, archery and black powder hunters did better in that area? By 2nd rifle season, there's usually been quite a bit of pressure on most elk on public lands.
