Default personal experiences: Hornady interbond bullet

Anybody have personal experiences using the 165 grain interbond (Hornady light magnum) on elk? Curious how it performed and how the bullets looked if recovered. The claims are that it won't seperate from the core and retains most of its weight. The ballistics sure look impressive:

.30-06 Sprg., 165 gr. IB 85159 Velocity (fps) / Energy (ft-lbs) Muzzle 100 yd 200 yd 300 yd 400 yd 500 yd 3015/3330 2802/2876 2599/2474 2405/2118 2219/1803 2041/1526 Trajectory (inches) Muzzle 100 yd 200 yd 300 yd 400 yd 500 yd -1.50 1.50 0.00 -6.60 -19.30 -39.00

However, here are a couple of others that sure look impressive as well: The Barnes MRX (triple shock with a ballistic tip) and the high energy nosler partition:

Default RE: personal experiences: Hornady interbond bullet

tx I think I responded to an earlier post regarding this. I would just add that I also tried the Hi Energy Partitions but they did not shoot well in my rifle. (2 1/2"vs 1" for the interbond) We killed 3 elk with the 165 interbonds 2 years ago. Three were pass thrus with impressive exit wounds and the two recovered bullets broke both front shoulders and weighted 137.5 and 156 grains with large near perfect mushrooms. My only reservation about using them on elk is if your rifle will shoot them.
Another factor to consider is the elevation you are hunting at. The interbonds .447 BC will not be much of a drawback at the higher elevation that most elk hunting occurs. It is a solid round out to 400 yards. The chart below is based on my chrony velocity of 2955fps and 9000 foot elevationthe elevationI hunt and a 250 yard zero range.

Yards400
Drop-14.6
Velocity2335
KE1997
LBS/Momentum55.03
Wind drift9.0

This outperforms most if not every 7mm rem mag factoryload. It is also approx $29.00 per box compared to $44.00 for the high energy loads.

Default RE: personal experiences: Hornady interbond bullet

Thanks Scott, very good info. You have definately had good results. Anybody else with personal experience? I am certainly going to have to see how they shoot in my gun. I tried the interbond in my 270 and they did not shoot well (darn). However, the interlock shoots a 3/4 inch group, and for deer that is a good bullet.
