Hey all - I'm new here and new to elk hunting. I've been reading as many posts as possible. I'm so excited on my upcoming trip! I've hunted deer in Texas my entire life, but this is a first time going to Colorado for Elk. Any advice for the 3rd rifle season Nov 1st-7th? I'm using a guide and will have horses. Will htere be any bulls left? Is there really a lot of hunting pressure? (I'm not used to seeing a lot of orange in the field.)

I'm sure with a guide and horses you will be able to get away from most of the crowd. As far as the 3rd season -it really all depends on the weather you will experience and the weather they have had up to that point. The guide should know where to look. Who are you outfitted with?

I second with the guide and horses you should be fine. Weather does play a large part in that area. A guy my wife works with was in the area 1st season and they had 10 tags and filled 9. Not sure how many were cows or bulls though.

We hunt without guides in the Morapos Creek area and see a lot of elk. Last time there the Elk moved down to the lower elevations before the 2nd season. There are a lot of elk up there in the White River National Forest, seeing elk should not be a problem and there will be plenty of bulls I'm sure. As everyone stated already, your guide will have his finger on the pulse of those elk so just have faith in him putting you on an animal. You will just have to hold up your end of the bargain and putit on the ground.

of course there will be bulls left. And about hunting pressure it since your hunting meeker i would say yes i hunt in that same unit even though i go late season in december it is usally crawling with hunters

I just got back. I didn't see a bull, but my dad shot a nice 5x5.

Hey coonazz, sorry ya didn't get your bull. Did you guys hear any buggling? I hunted 2nd season over near Steamboat and the bulls where very vocal.
