I don't think bear is a "spot & stalk" critter.
You even spot one yet?
Successful bear guys in the Rockies put out bait, use trail cameras, and sit on the baits when they are known to be hit.
They are very nocturnal, especially with our recent full moon.
If it works for you, please let us know!

Bears are very much a spot and stalk critter. In Southern Oregon they are everywhere. When they are active you will find bears in damn near every clear cut you glass.

Really? Medford? . . .Ashland?

When I lived there, the big harry bipeds were all Sasquatch!

I wish the bears here were that cooperative!

Yeah you have to be sure before you shoot that its not a Sasquatch. ODFW has limited Wookie tags.

In the mountains they are, we've had great success doing it!! Some states its not legal to bait so spot and stalk is all you can do.

Glass the Green spots on mountain sides. Watch the timber line, lots of times they are on the edges where they can slip into cover quickly. Take your time, most people look over a spot and quickly move on, I suggest spending up to 1/2 hour or more if the spot looks good. When it gets hot they are out more in early morning and evening, but if the weather is cool or overcast they can be found all day, especially if they just rolled out of their dens and are hungry. Try throwing in a little predator calling to up your odds and for a little more excitement. Baiting and dogs are the best route, but spot and stalk has its own challenges and benefits. Some of the biggest bears I've seen taken were spot and stalk, most big bears become nocturnal on baits, and won't tree for dogs, or learn how to loose all but the best hounds. Luck, Time, and Skill,to Kill.
