Kat, depends where you the states you want to go and what animal you want to hunt. Many states, especially in the east are over the counter tags, you walk up to a ticket agent, or even on line and buy the license and tag and you are set (many have a hunter safety requirement, not sure how to get this satisfied in your case).

Other states/animals, mostly west for animals like sheep, elk, moose are draw systems, basically its a lottery, you toss your name in the pot and if you are drawn you pay the money and get the tag. Some western states are over the counter for some and lottery for others.

I guess it all comes down to how much money you want to spend, what animals you want to hunt and if you want to use a guide.

First I would go to the game and fish dept of some different states you are interested in. For instance, Texas Parks and wildlife dept: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/ . You should be able to find the answer to most of your questions. But they should also have a "contact" link on the website where you can send them specific quesions. Most are good about answering specific questions.

Texas is basically private land hunting, but there are a lot of animals you could hunt. From whitetail and turkeys, to feral hogs and many exotics (axis deer, sika deer, blackbuck antelope, elk,and many kinds of african game). Many ranches have free ranging game, but many are high fenced operations. If you want a specific type of hunt, you need to be clear with prospective outfitters what you want.

I also do swap hunts, where I take people hunting here on my ranch in exchange for them taking me hunting at their location. You probably won't be able to do that, but I know people swap other things than hunts. For instance, you might swap lodging in England for someone who wants to visit your country. That way they could save big hotel bills.

Good luck!

If you are looking for an outfitter decide what species you want to hunt and then find your outfitter and they will guide you through the process.Any idea on what you want to hunt?

Most states it would take nothing more than walking up to the counter and purchasing a non resident hunting license/ carcas tag. If you wanted to use the services of a guide then it's just a matter of contacting several that specialize in the type of hunt that you want and reserve your spot.

Check out my website at www.colorado-adventures.com and I am sure we have something you like. Tags are very easy to get in Colorado with most hunts being over the counter for tags, meaning they are unlimited. We have alot of elk and some great deer hunting. Let me know if I can help. Good luck and good hunting!!!

Is there much public land to hunt over there? From what we've heard it is mostly private and reserved for the wealthy. Stalking Red Deer would be great.
