Hi
Im a swedish guy who recently began hunting. I took my hunting license early last season (last fall) and began hunting at my dad's farm. The first game i bagged was a young fallow deer spike. There was bigger males in the herd but i promised my dad not shot big males so i had no choice. I'll let the photos do the most of the talking. Sorry for all the blood, i had to shot it in the neck so it stayed on our estate (even though the first shot hit the heart).
Bagged one week before fallow deer season ended (21/2 -08)
My next game was a small mouflon ram. In Sweden, they arent very common and it's great to have the opportunity to hunt mouflon. The mouflon doesnt belong to the swedish fauna, so there arent any specific season.
The mouflon on my dads farm comes from an enclosure, but the owner of them got tired of them fleing so he let them fle.
Anyway, i spotted a herd of them a late afternoon when i was stalking a hog, this is the result of that day:
It wasn't big, but it madea coupletasteful meals
Later on i will post photos on the trophies, i just got them back.
I hope you had a good time reading this, even though my english isn't very good.
Perhaps there will be more mouflon rams this summer. Untill then, have a good time and please write some comments!
Congrats, those are great animals to get started with. Lets hope you have many more seasons to come. It would be cool to have Fallow besides on game farms.
Congratulations and welcome from across the big pond. Looks like you've got a good place to hunt over there andhave started your hunting career off nicely.

It's not a game farm though, just a regular farm for growing crops and forestry.
Is there any restrictions on how many animals you can shot on your own land in USA?
In Sweden we only got restrictions on moose and some kind of restriction on red deer (it's optional).
On our farm we can only shot one moose calf, we never hunt moose though. We seldom shot more than one reed deer, but we didn't shot any last season. Two years ago a friend of mine shot a 12-pointer, one of thelargest in our area. It ran more than 1 kilometer even though it was a lung shot, so they are quite strong even if they are hardly injured
Well, I have a great place for hunting. The whole farm is about 350 hectares, about 860 acres. Whats the average size of an hunting area in USA?
Hunting over here is regulated by national and state laws. Most migratory birds, dove, ducks, and geese seasons and bag limits are set by the federal government. Hunting on national refuges is also controlled by the feds. Native big game, including black, grizzly, and brown bears, whitetail, blacktail, coues, and mule deer, elk, moose, bison, caribou, antelope, bighorn, dall, and stone sheep, and mountain goat are regulated by each state. Depending on the species and the state it can be anywhere from a once in a lifetime draw tag which you can apply for your entire life and never draw to no limit on buck deer during a five month hunting season. Wild boar, non native deer, {fallow, sika, axis}, and red stag, African and Indian antelopes, sheep, goats, buffalo, and other exotics are on large ranches, {thousands of acres}, and free roamingin Texas and manyother states. Most of these are regulated by the owners and hunts for them is a big business with many ranches stopping raising cattle and other livestock making a living selling hunts.Across the rest of the country hunting is done in anything from small woodlots and agricultural fields up to millions of acres of national forests and wilderness areas. It is very popular but there is always a political battle going on between us and the ignorant groups of people who want to stop hunting and gun ownership across the country.

Ok, it sounds like it's a big difference between US and Sweden. But there is one similarity, in the north of Sweden you can buy a license for grouse hunting on state owned areas. But there is no lottery going on.
When it comes to moose, we have sertain areas wich the county council determine which animal the landowner is allowed to shoot. You need big areas (often more than 1000 hectares) if you want to shoot a bull. On our 350 hectares we are allowed to shot a calf, even though we sighted many bulls, cows and heifers.
A funny thing about Mouflon, there is no regulations for the at all. You can hunt them all the time, even spring and summer. It's becouse they aren't in the Swedish fauna. Two days ago i saw the largest herd i ever seen, it was about 35 animals, i only managed to count 28 of them before they ran away. They came as a surprise, a friend of mine shot a young wild boar sow just some minutes before. I also sighted some pheasants in our garden, thats pretty cool i think...
One of those bucks has to be shot the coming season, so the herd won't scare away the roe deer
This fall im planning to work in US, is it possible to hunt over there even though im a foreigner?
I'm sure you'll find something over here you can hunt. If you're serious about it you should look into a U.S. certified hunter education course, as that will probably be a requirement.
Looks like you have lots of different species to hunt in your immediate area...congratulations

I'm not aware of any reason why you couldn't hunt here. Like hillbilly said, you might be required to have a hunter's safety course for some states. You can take those online I believe. What species of deer are those in your pictures? The top one looks like whitetail.

It's not whitetail, it's fallow deer. It's the same herd that i shot a spike from. There are no whitetail in Sweden becouse they can spread diseases to our deer, it's not even possible to have whitetail in enclosures.
Well, i think i will take the safety courseonce ive desided if i will go to US.
