Well WesternWashington State has some out standing spot and stalk bear hunting. I took a 6 footer in 2006. But you won't find the color phase bears out there. From what I hear Montana and Arizona have some great spot and stalk hunting!

If you want to take a great trip (DIY)to do some spot and stalk on monster black bear look into Prince Wales Island Alaska. I've been twice and killed both times. My last bear scored 21 1/2 inches which places him in B&C. If you want more info shoot me an email. Here are a few pics of the bear and the area.

We have allot of bears in Central Idaho. Some big country, lots of good spot and stalk areas in units 10 and 12. The fish and game are offering reduced price bear tags for some of these units (check regs http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/ ) to help reduce bear numbers, or you can use your deer tag on them in the fall. I believe the reduced tags are $31 instead of $150. So with a $141 license and $31 tag you can be bear hunting for under $200. Help our elk and come take a bear, and when it opens shoot a couple wolves also.

Oregon, hands down has the most bears in the U.S. Hunt the clear cuts on the the southern Oregon coast. If you have good optics you will find bears. I took 2 last year. One was 300 lbs. Here is the pic;

And the first bear(this one looks like a griz!);

I did do a DIY hunt. I enjoyed it very much!!! But I have to agree with John Deer! POW(Prince of whales) is awesome!!! I was stationed just south of there for 2 years in Ketchikan. Southeast Alaska holds some huge bruins! POW also has spectacular deer hunting! You can kill the elusive Sitka Blacktail deer! A deffinate trip to take!!
