Default Arrow placement on elk

What is the optimum arrow placement for a quick kill on an elk? I realize in the vital area behind the shoulder, but I would think an elks shoulder blade is quite a bit bigger and tougher than a whitetails. So is it beneficial to aim a little farther back, a little high or a little low?

Id have to say a quartering away shot would be best..that way your margin of error is reduced and you would be able to avoid a shoulder shot.

the rule we teach on all game is 1/3rd up 1/3rd back, you'll never go wrong, espically on the big animals. Also a quartering away shot....what I tell folks to do is shoot for the off shoulder. If you look at it and cant hit the lungs by aiming at the off shoulder, its probably a to steep of an angle to be shooting!
