Words can't describe how much fun elk hunting is. To hear a big bull screamin in the timber is simply amazing! I can't wait to go back to Idaho next September bow hunting. I am extited already!

Life is nothing like a box of chocolates. It's more like a box of Jalapeno's, What you do today can burn you ass tomorrow!
The Bugle as you refer to it is the Rut ie breeding season. Generally all areas I know of are the same. Cows start coming into heat in early September. Things really start peaking in mid to late September. Generally the Bulls quite down and the rut stops by the second week of October. In Colorado your not going to hunt elk during the rut with a rifle unless you are fortunate to draw a special tag after 15 years or have the money to pay for a pay to hunt on a wildlife ranching outfitter.
Bulls will still bugle during the rifle seasons, just few and far between. I wouldn't go out bugling at a bull, but you'll hear em from time to time just socially talking..
Helps locate to move in!
I'm a bowhunter and we are planning a elk trip the first week of next Sept. I was wondering if we should wait another week or so and go later? Would the 2nd week be better to go?
