Default new to bear hunting and need help.

I hunt in South Carolina and our bear season starts in three weeks. I've always hunted deer but never bear. We've seen them in our yard and tracks on our property, but other than that I have no clue what to look for. I have one week for still hunting and we cant bait. Any Suggestions where to start.

Check near swamps if you have any close by. Look for torn up old logs, rolled logs and flipped rocks. They leave this kind ofsign while looking for food. Also watch for scratches on trees. If you can find any droppings try to figure out what there feeding on. Keep your eyes open as this stuff can be hard to spot and easy to overlook. It differs state to state but its a start. Hope it helps.

Here in Minnesota i have my best luck in dark heavy cover. It seems to me they are more comfortable in that type of woods rather then in open areas. I guess it depends what you guys have for woodswhere you live. StillHunter gave you some good advise on what to look for when your out scouting. Good luck. If you can use liquid scents, thats a plus being you can't bait!
