This is my first year hunting archery and I would have taken the shot. I shot over a coyotes back at 45 yards yesterday only because when the string snapped he ducked to take off like a deer does causing my arrow to fly about 2 inches over his back. I practice at 40 yards and can pull good groups all day so it's not that bad.. Did you hit that elk, I couldn't tell...?
Agree with most above. I think it all comes down to comfort level of the shooter. If you know you can hit and have confidence in a kill shot at a distance, take it. It will be different for everyone.

Agreed. But if you are comfortable, kill 'em all and sort the bodies out later.
