Don't think I would have pulled the trigger here. Thoughts?

Growing up in Idaho, In very open terrain,I am very comforable with a 42 yd shot at elk. Wouldn't blink an eye! Just a quick cow call to stop him.

I would take the shot but only because I would be using a 270.

This is my first year hunting archery and I would have taken the shot. I shot over a coyotes back at 45 yards yesterday only because when the string snapped he ducked to take off like a deer does causing my arrow to fly about 2 inches over his back. I practice at 40 yards and can pull good groups all day so it's not that bad.. Did you hit that elk, I couldn't tell...?

I'll be in Idaho in a bit over a week chasing elk, if I get that chance, and have the time to range him, you bet, 42 yards the arrow will be flying.

Also, on a critter that big, 2 yard error probably won't make the miss, the guy flat out missed.

Agree with most above. I think it all comes down to comfort level of the shooter. If you know you can hit and have confidence in a kill shot at a distance, take it. It will be different for everyone.

Agreed. But if you are comfortable, kill 'em all and sort the bodies out later.
