I got an email today about a cancellation hunt that is available. Alaskan Dall sheep in a prime area. It would save me several grand. I want to so bad. Too bad I don't have the cash.....I'm not in proper shape either to go on a sheep hunt. Why oh why do they do this to me.... Its torture I swear, I was better off not knowing..

I've gotten notices in the last couple of years of "last minute" cancelations that would've been awesome deals, but just never been the right timing. I've been thinking that instead of planning a big hunt for next year, maybe instead be prepared for the next best offer by being in shape, having the cash stashed, and the time to do it set aside. It just seems like a lot of opportunitys arise, so maybe waiting for the right offer to come down the pike is the way to go these days.
I'm already planning on having the momeny saved next year for another trip to AK., so maybe instead of making final plans this fall, just wait for the right offer to knock!
Dall sheep are high on my list of "to do's" also! And I ain't getting any younger![8D]

Speaking of these cancellation hunts. How are you guys getting notified about them? Is it because of specific outfitters that you've contacted with your intentions? Although I realize that "cancellation hunts" aren't something you can count on, it seems like a great way to save money if you are flexible enough

I get the notifications from Atcheson & Son's outfitters. They are a "booking agent" for many outfitters. I asked to be on there email list and they send me cancellation deals every once in awhile. I accepted one the first time I went to BC on a elk hunt. I had exactly one month notice. The trip was amazing and I ended up make a return trip the following year with the same outfitter.

I started running last night, like I was preparing for a big hunt. Next year if an offer like this comes around I intend to be in shape to go. The money is tough no doubt, but for this deal I would max out a couple credit cards if I felt like I was in shape enough to go. Next year I plan on having some money stuffed in my hidey hole and to be in shape. Of course next year there won't be a cancellation knowing my luck, but it never hurts to be in shape.
