Black bear tactics

Does anyone have any good black bear hunting tactics for a beginner bear hunter. I missed this year's season but I plan on going hunting next year. My girlfriend has a farm where she's seen some big bears. Its never been hunted for them so I figure I cant lose (we'll see what i think in a year

). I would like to start scouting now though and need to know what to look for as well as where to set up stands or where points of interest would be...? Do you bait, not bait...shotgun, rifle...early morning, evening...calls?!?!!?! I have no idea, all input is greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks Billy for the great article. I've asked around for pointers on how to call since WA did away with baiting. I tagged up with another hunter last night who wants to take a bear. We are going to go out this weekend and start scouting around. We will probably do some calling as well. Have you seen Wayne Carlton's Bear Calling video? Talk about getting your blood pumping....
