If I was to get an elk only gun, it would either be a 300 or 325 WSM. In an A-bolt. However, I would'nt hesitate using my 7mm WSM.

I think the .300 winchester magnum would be right up there on any list of great elk rifles.

I'm partial to my 7mm Rem Mag. But, if I was buying a specific gun just to use on elk, I would probably buy a 338 Win Mag.

I've shot 2 bulls with a .300 Win. Mag. One bull was shot @ 180 yards standing broadside, he went a grand total of 10 yards before he dropped. The second bull was shot @ 135 yards bedded, he never left. To say I'm happy with that gun is in understatement.
