yeah they do work, but if you've ever been in 84 at the southern part, its a long hard walk up. Then once you get to the top, where we usually park the atv's, its another long walk down.

Depends where you start off at. I take highwat 69 and go the southern route. To many campers at the top near the lake.

uhh..i'll say that it depends more on where you end up....but in any case, 85,851,140 are where most elk hunters in trinidad hunt- being that its close to home and that there are plenty of elk, though public access is difficult on vast portions of our county(baca/maxwell land grant and mining concerns privatized most of our land that would otherwise be BLM or NF). however, the elk hanging on my wall was public. also, if a "ranching for wildlife" tag is available for the OP- the hill or crazy french have the most demand in the state....14 yrs/ppts- so start soon...

I dont even bother with the special draw units. I only hunt for meat so if its legal and i have a tag for it, im going home if i do my part and place the shot well. Im going back to 84 next year, Im tired of driving 7 1/2 hours to our new hunting area. Any guys tried unit 85 in the Purgatory campground area? Theres Ntl forest and a small section of state wildlife area i'd like to give a try some year.
