Default Paperwork on firearms in/out of Canada?

I've got a bear hunt planned for next month in Manitoba. My taxidermist told me that I need a Form 4457 from the U.S. for anything with a serial number. Is this new? Idroveup there 2 years ago and didn't need one then. This year I'm flying?????

Help!!!!!!!!!!!1

Try these places, maybe they can help.....

Canadian Firearms Centre www.cfc-ccaf.gc.ca 1-800-731-4000
Canada Border Services www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca 1-800-461-9999
outside Canada 1-204-983-350 or 1-506-636-5064

Hope this helps. Good luck on your hunt.

Ron

Its not new, its been around for awhile. Its pretty simple. call the local customs department at an airport. Schedule a time to take your weapon there. They will ask you to fill out a small form that asks for make, model, caliber, serial #, etc. then the custom agent will look at the form verifying that the info matches the weapon you've brought and stamp it. then you put that form in your wallet and when you are asked for it you've got it. Its basically proof that you owned the weapon when you left the states so that you don't have to pay taxes on it upon your return.

There was a fee of $100 (or some fee) that applied to bringing firearms into Canada a couple of years ago. I am not sure if this is still in effect or not. It was suppose to be good for 1 year. Like I said...I am not sure if this is still true or not.
