Thermacells...do they scare away huge bears?

Going on a spring bear hunt (archery) and the Outfitter is recommending using the thermacells...he is a VERY reputable guide...no problem there. However, a friend who is a staff shooter tells me to stay away from these things because of residule odors. Sure...they work but,I want a monster.

That is GREAT QUESTION!!
I started using thermacells last spring in the bear stand..I'm always leary about scent, as you know bears got wicked noses....but I must say, the Thermacell gives off a little scent...What I started doing is leaving old thermacell pads in the stand, when I wasn't there, and then used the Thermacell when I was sitting.

Let me tell you, it changed my hunting...I could sit buck naked and and not have a bug within 5 feet. It was aweasome, and I saw lots of bears last year...Including the GIANT when I had the thermacell running...

Thanks for the response from someone who has at least thought about the affects of it. i am going on a spring hunt in Alberta...N. of ft. MCcmurray on the Saskatchewan border. LOTS of big bears there...I am considering soaking my clothes in a product called pertherim? By sawyers...supposedly is 100% odorless. i am into this...whatever it takes!

i use thermacells for deer hunting and so far it hasn't messed up any of my hunts. i figure deer are more "scent sensative" than bear.

Whitetails sure do have a nose, but so to does the mighty black....they stand on their haunches to smell an area if something is up..

Coyotes work their nose best out of any animal in North America I think..

Not me, but if I ever go on an elk hunt in Colorado, I won't not use them.

Yes I have shot lots of bears without a thermacell.
