What was your most memorable hunting moment this year?Kill or not.
Mine was during ML season for Bull Elk.I packed my bag and a few supplies and slept under the stars(at 11,500ft) for a couple of nights.First night the bulls were bugling all night long(incredible).Just before dawn I started cow calling and got a bull(5x5) to come in to about 50yrds but could'nt get a shot. While I was calling that bull I heard something come in from behind me.I did'nt know what and was scared out of my boots! It was soooo close I swear I could hear it breathing!By the time I turned around, IT(which turned out to be another 5x5 bull)barked out turned and ran off.The other bull followed suit.I did'nt get a bull. But that experiance will be with me forever!!!!!!!

The sight and the sound 75 head of elk running full tilt into the line of timber where I had my boys positioned for a opening day elk ambush and the look on their faces when I went over to help with the field dressing.

Good judgement comes from bad experience! Half of elk hunting is knowing what NOT to do!

Mine was having my 13 yr old son hunting Mule Deer with me for the first time. We had spotted some beddded down at about 11:00 am in the wind, and put together a plan to stalk them from the down wind side (opposite of where we were). After about a 3 mile hike, we snuck up over a little hill and a fawn got up and looked around. I told him not to shoot that one, then the big doe got up. We thought that was going to be it, then up jumped the buck. I said "holy cow, there's the buck, shoot the buck". I would give anything to have the next 30 seconds on video. The look on his face, and the barrel of that .243 shaking, and the sight of that majestic 24" Mulie buck looking at us from 30 yards. What a sight!!

Sitting on the ground 15 yards behind Articbowman and watching the show. I managed to call a 6X6 Bull into him at 12 yards 3 different times over a 10 minute period. He drew on him twice but it was so thick he didnt like the shot. Getting this pull pissed off at me was incredible........

I still have visions of him bugling back at me, chest going way in and out as his rack was tilted back to his rear end.........

One of the most incredible moments (if not thee) I have ever had bowhunting.............

chasing an antelope for 2 miles before i could see any horns, then getting to within 80-85 yds, hiding behind a 4'tall bush as it was looking for me. the wind was blowing about 35-40 miles an hour right in my face, after 5 or so minutes it turned broadside, i grabbed the bush for support but the wind was moving the bush all over the place. i took a deep breath, let half of it out, tightened up just as the wind calmed down a bit, placed the crosshair in the vitals and squeezed the trigger and watched the buck drop in its tracks.

here i was out in the plains of arizona yelling and hooting and no one to hear me except the cows and buzzards. 9:44am opening morning, called my buddy on the talk-a-bouts and told him "i'm done come get me".

my 1st antelope hunt ever

IT IS UP TO ME......

I was stalking a bull Moose in Ontario in Sept. He was a little better than 50". We had seen him off a railroad bed and almost got him to challenge before walking off with his cow. We circled around on some old logging roads and found him again. Took off my boots and tried another stalk only to be given away by a chipmonk. As the bull and cow walked of into the bush unsure of what the chippy was bitching at, we ran down the road pararelling them in the bush. My camo suit was makeing a lot noise, and my partner (Jack), who was a local, kept looking back at me and sushing me. So I released the suspenders on my bibs and now was running full out in my cotton socks and longjohns with the bulls horns knocking trees and makeing a heck of a racket. Never did catch up to him. After walking back and collecting my bibs and boots I sat down and started getting dressed. Jack turns and looks at me and says, "man, I sure hope none of my freinds drive by right now"! Imagine trying to explain standing over a half dressed American putting his clothes back on, 10 miles out in the bush.

The first day of bow season (first time for elk). Bugle in a 6x6 bull at about 4:00PM but couldn't get him to step out in any opening at all. For 45 minutes he walked all around me about 50 to 100 yards away all the time SCREAMING at me. I finally got up and started trying to get closer to him. He started heading up the mountain with me in persuit for about an hour or so. When it finally got too dark to shoot I began heding down the mountain back to camp then the bull decided I made him mad enough to come in to me. He stepped out at about 30 yards and about 5 minutes too late. I continued down the mountain with the bull in persuit of me this time. He chased me for about 500 yards, both of us bugling to each other the whole time. I had the chills for about 3 hours after that. I never did get a shot at him, but I'll never forget it!

Standing next to my little brother as he raised his 12 gauge and dropped a nice 8 point WI buck right in his tracks. Then helping him drag it to the truck and helping him dress it out. Brothers are the best hunting partners.

Opening day of rifle, after a three hour hike in the dark up an blowdown and alder choked avalanche chute...watching the dawn of a clear blue day break from timberline....then watching five big black boars feasting in the alpine basin berry smorgasbord and videoing a cougar while eating lunch on the ridge...never took a shot, and it was my best day of the year!!

Great post by the way & stories!
