Default Predator Calling for Wolves?

I'm hoping on going moose hunting in AB, and was thinking that if I would get my moose early in the hunt I would try for a wolf. Have any of you every tried using a predator call for wolves with any luck? It might not be a good idea because of grizzlies. Just curious.

Coyotes and wolves are natural enemies. Wolves will push coyotes out of there territories. Perhaps you can work off of that natural rivalry to draw them in.
Otherwise, if you're in areas where there are wolves primary prey (e.g. whitetail deer) you're bound to see wolf sign. But because they move in and out of areas on their hunting routes, it's likely a matter of timing as much as anything, if you see them.
From hearing my uncle Harold talk about trapping them in the early part of 1900's, when it was legal to do so. Timber (Grey) Wolves are one of the smartest predators and toughest to trap or I imagine also hunt. They are very much aware of any threats, smells or sign of humans.
I can't say much else. Wolves have been a "protected species" here in MN for about 3 decades, like the rest of lower 48 for some time. Only now are they supposedly being delisted where some limited legal hunting of them "may" be allow at some point in areas where there is much wolf human interaction. They'll likely still prevent the people here in NE MN to hunt them or protect their animals though. That would make too much sense.

First off, where in Alberta are you headed for moose? With an outfitter.family or friend sponsered? If you want to really see a grizzly up close I'd recommend using a moose call as they are allways looking to fatten up before their winter nap.Seriously though ,wolves are usually incidentally shot or over baits andI suppose they might respond to a varmint call.A coyote howler might get them in as wolves particularly enjoy killing a coyote if he's careless same as a coyote catching a fox. What gun are you packing as picking a controlled expanding bullet and placement is more important than caliber?Moose are dull witted ,easy to kill and stand and take it not running off when hit good.Harold

I t works fine. I have used the old hand powered rubber varmit calls (dying rabbit)succesfully as have some friends. We always called in the winter and usually on big frozen lakes.
My brother and I once called in 9 big wolves in the Yukon along the Ashiak River. They showed up within a few minutes.
Some other friends use the howl in Feb (mating season)to call in animals. This often works after a pack has been dissturbed off a kill.

a predator call would probally work if the wolves are in the area but i really dont think u need to worry to much about bears.
