I'm getting ready to work up some loads for my 300 ultra mag, it will be used mainly on elk. What would you suggestfor bullet weight and type. Im really looking ata 180 grain scirocco, but im open to suggestions. thanks.

Re:scirroco's if they shoot they'll work. However if I wanted a polymer tipped bonded with near assurance they'll shoot I'd go with Nosler Accubond, I've had little troubles getting them to print.

Since you asked for opinionsthe bullet I'd suggest is the Barnes TSX 165/168 or 180 gr. It is an awesome elk bullet and become my choice when hunting elk or moose with my 7mm rem mag. Forget what you may have experienced or heard with other x bullets, the TSXhas beengreat to work IME.

Younever will go wrong with a nosler part either though.

Good Luck

Nosler Partition or Barnes X Triple Shock..

Go with what your gun likesbest, something that's bonded, semi solid or similar would be best.

The 300 Ultra deserves a bullet w/ a high BC. The TSX and the Partition just are not that high. Why shoot an Ultra with a TSX and have the same point of impact @ 400-500yrds as a 300win mag w/ a high BC boatailed bonded bullet. The TSX is awesome on game, but a 165 Interbond, Accubond, or Scirocco at 3350-3400fps is flatter and plain mean on elk. My favorite load is a 200gr Accubond @3150fps. I guess I just think that if your going to use one of the flattest shooting guns, you should team it w/ the flattest shooting bullets. Just my opinion. Brett

Nosler Partition
Nosler Accubond
Barnes TSX

any of these in 180-200 grains would be excellent.

Avoid less than 180 gr. IMHO, and absolutely do not buy ballistic tips or other highly frangible bullets.

The 300 Ultra and 165 Nosler Boat-tail.They flat crush elk,if you don't like that and want maximum penetration. Then the 220 gr Nosler, will do it nicely.
