Default US to Canada

I would like to know exactly what you must do to hunt Alberta, I have had a hard time finding info and have heard that you must have a guide if you are a non-resident alien. I have also heard that any canadian citizen with a hunting license can act as a guide for one person, however, none of the people that I know in Alberta are exactly certain about the particulars?

First you need to get a WIN number from the Alberta Governement, then either hire an outfitter or get a Alberta resident to be a hunt sponser for you. They need to get a Hunt Sponser Permit, then you can get your hunting license in Alberta.

You must either use the services of an outfitter or be hosted by a hunter host. The hunter host must be a resident of Alberta. There are some limitations around who can be hosted and how many (i forget the details but the link already posted will provide the needed info).

There are also some nuances around applying for lotteries and how that is done with a hunter host. IMO, go with an outfitter. Will cost you more, but will remove a lot of the hassle, especially if you plan on going with any friends or family that are not residents of Alberta.

Good luck
