Default 30-06 loads for moose

I'm going to Alaska on a moose hunt this season. Are there any factory loads that you guys have used that worked well? I am going the factory ammoroute because my handloads could be lost on the plane trip. I figured i could take a box or two with me. And have my troops parents pick me up one just in case.

Either the federal premium loads with the tsx or mrx would do a fine job.

Agree. Could also add Nosler Partitions loaded in Federal Premium line.

I used Federal 180 grn. Accubonds for my Newfoundland moose.

Of course the Alaskan variety are much bigger.

Moose aren't hard to kill at all. Last Saturday I shot a bull at 350 yards with my .300 Winny spitting out Federal's 180 grain Speer Hot-Core's (not the premiums). I hit that bull slightly high in the lungs, and didn't break either shoulder or do any spinal damage and he dropped like a ton of bricks. You can see the pics of that moose on this thread:

Moose are huge, but one well placed boiler room shot will anchor them well. No need to shoot a hand cannon, unless you want to see one do an ass-over-tea-kettle, or ruin a bunch of meat.

Where about's are you planning on hunting up here Crew Dawg?

I handload, but my favorite bullet choice for moose would be the 180gr.TBBC.....
So any factory load that has that bullet would be my suggestion
Maybe a good choice in cartidge selection forGrizzlies too.........

Good choices listed above. I would go with the Federal with 180 Partitions or Federal Fusions in 180 grain. One of my hunting buddies shot a moose in Alaska, 60+ incher he put three shots from his 300 Win Mag through the vitals and the moose just walked away like he had not even been hit. However he walked just around a bend in the river and dropped there. Sometimes, because of their size, moose act unimpressed even by good solid hits. However they usually don't go far after a good hit.

The family livesN/Eof Anchorage. They own landbetween Chugach State Park and Denali National Park. Thanks for the sugestions. I never had a chance to hunt Moose, i have no idea what to expect. I have hunted Elk when i was stationed in Washington State and New Mexico. I busted my first with a .300 win mag at about 150 yards. He didn't act like he felt it and he ran over 200 yards. It was a good hit through both lungs and cliped the heart. I figured Moose would be even harder to kill.

It happens even with deer. You can can blow both lungs and the heart and sometimes they will go quite a ways.
