I assume you are talkking about barron ground bou in Quebec. If not and you want to consider a woodland caribou hunt in Newfoundland I have been there 3 years in a row. I use Snowshoe Lake Hunting and Fishing in Millertown NL. Woodland bou are not as migratory as their open tundra cousins and have larger bodies but smaller antlers. The hunting is all spot and stalk with guide only. Real good time lots of nice quality animals and great guides. That outfitter gets a A+ from me.

I leave Tommorow for my Bou hunt. This will be my first and I have had lots of friends hunt with this Outfitter in the past. I will be able to report back to you about Sept 3rd on what I thought.

I built a website where I will be sharing the hunt with others. Your welcome to check it out and ask any questions when we get back.

Depends on what subspecies you want to hunt...

For Central Canada barren ground, I hunted with Adventure Northwest at Little Marten Lake in NWT north of Yellowknife...Had a wonderful hunt..Most of the NWT outfitters ( and there aren't a lot of them) are honest and well organized and have high success rates...

In Alaska, I've had excellent results with Bay Air in Dillingham and Lake Clark Air in Port Alsworth hunting the Mulchatna herd..However, the Mulchatna herd has declined in the last few years...I understand the western arctic herd out of Kotzebue is a better bet nowadays..Never hunted there, but one air service that I have heard mentioned is Maverick Air..You might check up on them and other services out of Kotz..

I'm booked with Jack Hume Adventures next week in Quebec...www.jackhumeadventures.com. Never hunted with them before, but several of my friends have and they all say JHA is first rate...One friend is going on his 9th hunt with JHA and has always done well..That kind of repeat business is a pretty good endorsement.. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks how I make out..

we haven't decided what kind of caribou we are going for , but all of us are going with the bow, so we would prefer an outfitter that caters more towards bowhunters.

Quebec might be your best bet...Much of the terrain in Alaska doesn't favor bowhunters... Wide open tundra with not much cover...Sometimes while hunting in Alaska I've had to work to get into LONG rifle range, when the critters were spooky due to an abundance of wolves and/or grizzlies..Quebec has areas with lots of timber, rocks, river crossings, etc. which make it easier to get into bow range or set up in a funnel and wait for them...No grizzlies either, which can be a GOOD thing...

If I wanted to hunt 'bou with a bow, I'd talk to JHAor perhaps Tuttilick ( sp) which is a Quebec outfitter that does cater to bowhunters..

I don't know Tuttilick's web address, but I'm sure you could find it in a Google search..

I am also looking for a good caribou hunt but for 2007. I will be hunting with several friends that I have met since I have been in Afgahistan with OEFVII. We will be bow hunting for the most part and are looking for Labrador caribou. We would really like to put together a self guided hunt but I understand that some of the laws have changed making it difficult to hunt unless you own land or are using an outfitter in that area.

Any help or advise would be appreciated

If you are coming to Quebec to hunt Caribou, I would also highly suggest you talk to Jack Hume Adventures. Jack started the business and has now passed it onto his son Richard. He and his wife pretty much run the operations out of Schefferville.

They will tell you exactly how it is and will set very realistic expectations as to what you will experience. They are not the biggest outfitter up there, but for the number of camps they have vs the number they fill; it leaves a lot of wiggle room to accomodate tough weeks if the caribou aren't where he initially puts you.

Last year, he was actually renting out some of his camps to other outfitters that weren't seeing Caribou in their areas.

Good luck,

The best outfitter in Quebec as far as I am concerned is Norpaq Adventures (www.norpaq.com) They will set you up a bow only camp if you want, plus they have a huge range and over 40 camps to move you to. That just helps ensure that you will get into caribou. The camps are very rustic (at least with system 1) but they are comfortable. They have bent over backwards for us and I really appreciated it. Heck, they even flew us in some Coke to camp half way through the week. We all bow hunt and allare 100% satisfied with the outfitter. Their prices are very reasonable also.
