Default Maybe I am crazy

I work at a place that has a very nice weight room and actually get paid for two hours a week to work out, nice huh. Well with 5 weeks to go until my elk hunt in CO I have been doing some things in the weight room that have people thinking I'm a bit odd. First understand that 95% of my coworkers are non-hunters. In the mornings I "hike" on the stairmaster and treadmill with a full pack (75lbs) strapped to my back. We actually had a group come by while I was doing this and I got some strange looks. In the evening I climb about 50 flights of stairs, again with my pack.

When I'm at home I put my 3 year old in my pack and we go for long walks. He can actually stand up in my pack and look out over me, he thinks it's a blast and keeps asking when we are going to Colorado. Anyone else do odd things like this?

Well I'm crazy too. I pack up my pack with dumbells and hike up mountains! I am getting in shape but I tend to get tendonitis in my ankles. Most I can do is like 2 to three days a week. I hike several buetes and mountains around the area.

Do you think all the crosses that you see along the highways are people who were killed by autos? Many were joggers whonever had a physical before they started jogging! That kind of work out that you are doingcalls for a Nuclear Stress Test. It doesn't matter howold you are.

Good for you. I don't think you arecrazy, just smart enough to take the advice that is given to "flatlanders" coming out west hunting. Tells meyou are doing allyou canto be successful.
If there are any parks with some steep hills, hike those too. I have taken people out hunting and one of the comments from a guy who was in very good shape, triathlete, who was getting beat up a little and very tired. He told me there is definitely a "technique" to hiking, especially when it comes to climbing over logs, pushing through brush, downhill, uphill, sidehill all the variations. I told him to do what I do, step where I step, etc. He said itmade a difference. And I am in no way shape or form a triathlete, but I have been in the mtns my whole life. My mottois: Run only when chased!!

I totally agree that it takes a technique to walk in the mountains. I as well have hunted and lived alot of my life in the mountains and i have acquired this "technique" i as well have a friend that does triathlete and i also took him out hunting one time and i took him on a good hike and he had to stop periodically because he was not used to having to excert his muscles to the different ways that we do. I also found that he had been trying to walk up hills with his feet pointing straight in front of him so i told him to stick his feet out to the sides like a penguin and he had noticed a huge difference in the strain on his legs.
