Default Looking for elk in Colorado

I am looking for a good area to hunt elk OTC during the last week of archery season in Colorado. I have hunted in several areas in the past, but did not see many animals. Large antlers are not an absolute necessity but, would be nice. Lots of elk are what we are looking for. Thanks for any help.

Try the White River Natl Forest / Flat Tops area east of Meeker, Co.

Look up Buford Store on the internet for a place to stay.

Look up Meeker Chamber of Commerce on the internet for more info.

Hey 1elkhunter,
Elk2901 is giving you some really good advice. That is a great area up there with a really big elk herd. The people up there are great and will do whatever they can do to help you be successful. I live in Denver and would try to help you if I can. Ducy's White River Resort is a great place to stay.Give me a call if I can be of help. Good luck!

thanks, I usually hunt in unit 23 around yellow jacket pass and in those areas public land are draw units. I was thinking that I may look west of Meeker but was hoping to see if anyone might know of a better area. Thanks again for the help.

AntlerEater is correct. Those GMUs are draw for archery. I have always hunted them rifle OTC 2nd or 3rd season and assumed archery was the same. I might try archery. But I don't like the warm weather to hunt in.

I hunted in the Yellow Jacket area last year. What a waste of time. Weather turned really warm. full moon and the elk were gone. Plenty of squrrills and grouse.
